University of Melbourne Graduate Research Scholarships

Graduate Research Scholarships are the University of Melbourne's main funding package for PhD and research-master's candidates. They are awarded competitively to domestic and international applicants alike, and administered through the graduate research admission process rather than separately.

The package covers a full fee offset, a living allowance, and relocation and health-cover support for research candidates.

There is no separate scholarship form

This is the single most useful thing to know about it. You are considered automatically when you apply for admission to a graduate research degree. There is nothing extra to submit, which also means your admission application is your scholarship application, and needs to be prepared as one.

How selection works

Selection is on academic record and research potential. In practice that puts weight on your research proposal and on the strength of the supervisory match you have arranged, because those are what "research potential" is assessed through.
