The Advanced Diploma of Marketing Automation is a practical, industry-focused qualification for people who want to build, run and improve the automated marketing systems that modern organisations rely on. You'll work through email automation, lead scoring and nurturing, CRM workflows, campaign analytics, landing pages, segmentation and database management. There's also room for the strategy side: how to map a customer journey, plan a campaign calendar, test and optimise, and report results to a client or manager. Assessment is largely project-based, so you finish with a portfolio of campaigns and automation builds rather than just exam marks.
This is a diploma-level course under the Australian Qualifications Framework, delivered over 1.5 years. Australian vocational and higher education providers usually run the year across semesters or trimesters, and you enrol in units of study that each carry credit points. To be awarded the qualification you need to complete the required units, which typically combine core marketing and automation subjects with electives. Some providers include a capstone or major project unit where you plan and deliver a full automated campaign from brief to results. Work-integrated learning, in the form of an internship or industry placement, is common in marketing qualifications because employers value real campaign experience.
Expect hands-on work with marketing automation platforms, CRM systems and analytics tools. You'll learn how to set up workflows, build and segment contact lists, write and schedule email sequences, create landing pages and forms, and track conversions. You'll also cover data privacy and consent, which matters in Australia under the Privacy Act and the Spam Act. On the strategic side, you'll practise campaign planning, content scheduling, A/B testing and performance reporting. Teamwork, client communication and project management are built into most units because that's how marketing teams actually operate.
This course suits school leavers who want a direct path into digital marketing, career changers moving from admin, sales or customer service, and small business owners who want to run their own automation without hiring an agency. It also works for marketing assistants who want to specialise. If you're an international student, you'll need to meet the English requirement and hold a Student visa, which allows you to work up to 48 hours per fortnight while your course is in session. After you finish, you may be eligible for the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) post-study work stream, depending on your circumstances. Tuition is published on the CRICOS register. Check the official page for current unit lists, intake dates, English equivalencies and fees.
Australian employers in advertising, technology, retail, finance, health and government all hire marketing automation skills. The qualification can also be a pathway into further study, such as a bachelor degree in marketing or business, with credit for completed units.
It typically takes 1.5 years, with intakes in Semester 1 (Feb/Mar), Semester 2 (Jul).
