Master of Architecture

The Master of Architecture at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) is designed to equip students with advanced skills in architectural design, critical thinking, and professional practice. Students engage in core design studios, technical and construction systems, architectural history and theory, environmental sustainability, and professional practice.

Structured to meet the requirements of the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) for a master’s degree, the course extends over 2.5 years of full-time study, typically divided into semesters. Students complete a sequence of units of study, each awarded a set number of credit points, building towards the required total for graduation. The program emphasises a capstone design studio or research project in the final semesters, allowing students to synthesise their learning in a major independent piece of work. Many units integrate work-integrated learning and opportunities for real-world engagement through industry projects, site visits, and possible professional placements within the Australian built environment sector.
