About this program

This double master's brings together two fields that often sit apart: managing projects and improving public health. You graduate with both a Master of Global Project Management and a Master of Public Health. That means you can run a health programme in a district, manage the rollout of a screening service, or coordinate a donor-funded project across several countries, and understand the epidemiology and policy behind the work, not just the schedule and budget.

What you study

The project management side covers the full project life cycle: scope, cost, risk, procurement, quality, stakeholder engagement and governance. You look at global projects specifically, cross-cultural teams, different regulatory settings, and the logistics of work that crosses borders. The public health side covers epidemiology, biostatistics, health promotion, health systems and policy, and the social determinants of health. Research methods and evidence appraisal run through both, so you finish able to read a study critically and use it to justify a decision.

Australian master's degrees are built from units of study, each worth a set number of credit points. A full-time load is usually four units a semester, and the academic year runs on semesters or trimesters depending on the institution. A two-year master's like this normally adds up to around 16 units, or 192 credit points, though the exact structure depends on whether you receive credit for prior study. Many programmes finish with a capstone unit or a research project where you apply both disciplines to a real problem, an evaluation plan, a service redesign, a project proposal for an actual organisation.

Placement and work-integrated learning

Public health and project management both lean on practice, so look for a placement or industry project unit. Placements in this field are typically with health services, NGOs, government health departments, community organisations or international development agencies. Some students do their placement overseas; others stay local. Either way, it is where the theory gets tested against real constraints, limited budgets, competing priorities, and communities whose needs do not fit neatly into a project plan.

Who it suits

This suits people who already have a degree and some work experience, and who want to move into health programme management, international development, or a coordination role in a health service or government agency. It also suits clinicians and health professionals who keep getting handed project work and want formal training in it. If you are early in your career and not sure which side interests you more, a single master's may be the better first step. If you know you want to work at the intersection, managing health projects, not just one or the other, the double degree saves you doing two separate qualifications.

English requirements for international applicants are set out on the official page. IELTS Academic 6.0–6.5 overall is the usual coursework-postgraduate standard, higher for teaching, nursing, medicine, law and social work. TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic, Cambridge C1 Advanced and the university's own English programmes are accepted as equivalents. The Department of Home Affairs also sets a separate English threshold for the Student visa itself, so check both. Tuition is published on the CRICOS register under course code 090248G. Confirm current structure, entry requirements and fees on the official page before applying.
