The Advanced Diploma of Program Management at SP International College is a one-year qualification for people who coordinate multiple projects under one strategic umbrella. You learn how to manage programmes rather than single projects: aligning several project streams to an organisation's goals, sequencing work, allocating shared resources, tracking benefits, and reporting to sponsors and steering committees. Units cover programme governance, stakeholder engagement, risk and issue management, financial control, procurement, and benefits realisation. Assessment is practical, you build programme documentation, run simulated governance meetings, and work through case studies drawn from Australian organisations.
Australian diplomas and advanced diplomas are competency-based, not semester-based in the traditional university sense. The course is delivered over one year, usually across two or three study periods. You complete a set number of units of competency, each carrying credit points, and each unit is assessed as competent or not yet competent rather than graded. There is no research thesis at this level. Some providers build in a capstone-style project where you plan a full programme from initiation to closure, and many include a work placement or simulated workplace component because programme management is learned by doing. Confirm the exact unit list, delivery mode and assessment schedule on the official course page.
You finish with the ability to write a programme business case, build a benefits map, manage interdependencies between projects, run a programme board, and handle competing demands from different project managers. You also pick up the financial side, budgeting, forecasting and cost control across a portfolio, and the people side, including negotiation, conflict resolution and communication with senior executives. These are the skills employers look for when they promote a project manager into a programme role.
This course suits experienced project managers ready to step up, coordinators who already manage several workstreams, and people in government, construction, IT or health services who need formal recognition of programme-level work. If you are an international student, you can work up to 48 hours per fortnight while your course is in session, and the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) post-study work stream may be available after you finish, check the Department of Home Affairs for current rules. English proficiency is required; the published standard for this level is IELTS Academic 6.0–6.5 overall, with TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic and Cambridge C1 Advanced accepted as equivalents. Tuition is listed on the CRICOS register under course code 110563E.
Australian industries that hire programme management graduates include federal and state government agencies, construction and infrastructure firms, IT and telecommunications companies, banks and insurers, health services, and management consultancies. Many roles sit inside a PMO or a transformation office.
It typically takes 1 year, with intakes in Semester 1 (Feb/Mar), Semester 2 (Jul).
Tuition is around A$12,000 total. Fees change yearly, confirm with an advisor.
