The Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy is a one-year qualification for people who want to work as myotherapists, practitioners who assess and treat musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction using hands-on techniques. You study anatomy and physiology in depth, learn how muscles, joints, nerves and connective tissue interact, and then learn how to assess a client's complaint, form a treatment plan and carry it out. Manual therapy techniques sit at the centre of the course: soft tissue massage, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, joint mobilisation, dry needling and corrective exercise prescription. You also cover clinical reasoning, infection control, professional communication and the business side of running a practice.
This is an Advanced Diploma, which sits at Level 6 on the Australian Qualifications Framework, above a Certificate IV or Diploma, below a bachelor degree. It is delivered over one year, typically across two or three study periods depending on the provider's calendar. The course is made up of units of competency, each carrying credit points, and you need to complete all core units to graduate. Assessment is practical as much as written: you will be observed performing treatments on real clients in a student clinic, and you will build a log of clinical hours. Most providers include a supervised clinic placement where you treat members of the public under a qualified practitioner's supervision. Confirm the exact unit list, delivery mode and clinic requirements on the official CRICOS register entry and the provider's page.
By the end you can take a case history, run orthopaedic and neurological tests, identify the likely source of a client's pain, and choose techniques that suit that presentation. You learn when a condition is outside your scope and needs referral to a GP, physiotherapist or other health professional. You also pick up the practical skills of running a clinic: record keeping, informed consent, hygiene, scheduling and explaining treatment plans to people who are in pain and want straight answers.
This course suits people who want to work with their hands and with people, and who are ready for a physically demanding job. It is a good fit if you have completed a Diploma of Remedial Massage and want to extend your scope, or if you are coming from a fitness, sports or allied health background. International students should note that a Student visa allows up to 48 hours of work per fortnight while your course is in session, and graduates may be eligible for the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) post-study work stream, check current Department of Home Affairs rules. English proficiency is required for entry; myotherapy is not a registered profession in the same way nursing or physiotherapy is, so check with the provider and the relevant professional association about what membership and insurance you will need to practise.
Hiring industries in Australia include private allied health clinics, sports and recreation organisations, aged care and disability providers, corporate wellness services and the personal services sector. Self-employment is common in this field.

Student Visa Student Visa Subclass 500 Refusals: The Reasons That Come Up Most
Most subclass 500 refusals trace back to four things: the Genuine Student requirement, funds evidence, course-progression logic, or an incomplete CoE. Here's what each one actually means and how to fix it before you apply.
