Master of Education

This Master of Education focuses on curriculum and instruction. It is for teachers, school leaders, and education professionals who want to deepen their understanding of how curricula are designed, delivered, and assessed. You will study how learning is planned across year levels, how teaching practice is shaped by evidence, and how schools and other institutions meet the needs of diverse learners.

The degree is a one-year master's, which places it at level 9 on the Australian Qualifications Framework. It is structured around units of study, each carrying credit points, delivered across trimesters or semesters. You will complete core units in curriculum theory, pedagogy, and assessment, and choose electives that match your interests or current role. A capstone project or research thesis usually sits at the end, letting you investigate a question from your own workplace or field.

Work-integrated learning is part of how education qualifications work in Australia. You may complete a professional placement or a school-based inquiry project, applying what you learn in a real classroom or educational setting. The skills you build include curriculum design, instructional planning, assessment literacy, data-informed teaching, and the ability to lead professional learning for other teachers. If you are coming from overseas, check the English requirements carefully. IELTS Academic 6.0–6.5 overall is the common standard for coursework postgraduate programs, but teaching courses often ask for 7.0–7.5. The Student visa has its own English threshold set by the Department of Home Affairs. While you study, you can work up to 48 hours per fortnight. After you graduate, the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) post-study work stream may let you stay and work in Australia, depending on your circumstances.
