The Graduate Diploma of Management (Learning) is a one-year qualification for people who want to lead learning and development inside organisations. It sits at graduate diploma level on the Australian Qualifications Framework, so it assumes you already have some tertiary study or relevant work behind you. You will look at how adults learn, how to design training that actually changes what people can do, how to assess competence against standards, and how to manage the compliance and reporting that Australian training organisations live with every day.
Delivery is typically over two or three study periods across the year, with units of study each carrying credit points. Expect core units in learning design, assessment, adult learning principles, and the management of training and assessment systems, plus electives that let you lean towards leadership, quality auditing or workforce capability. Assessment is mostly practical: design a training plan, build assessment tools, evaluate a program, lead a team project. Many providers include a work placement or a simulated workplace project, because the field expects you to have run real training, not just read about it.
Skills you come out with are specific. You can write a training needs analysis, map a unit of competency to a learning program, run a validation session, manage an RTO's assessment records, and talk to senior managers about return on training investment. You also get the compliance literacy that Australian vocational education demands, including knowledge of the standards that registered training organisations work under.
This suits trainers and assessors who want to move into management, HR and L&D staff who need formal credentials, and people from industry who now carry responsibility for developing others. It also works as a pathway towards a master's degree with credit for prior study, though you should confirm credit arrangements with the receiving institution. If you are an international student, you can work up to 48 hours per fortnight while your course is in session, and the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) post-study work stream may be available after you finish, depending on your circumstances. English entry is usually IELTS Academic 6.0–6.5 overall or an accepted equivalent, and the Department of Home Affairs sets its own separate English threshold for the Student visa. Tuition is published on the CRICOS register. Check the official page for the current unit list, intake dates and fees.
It typically takes 1 year, with intakes in Semester 1 (Feb/Mar), Semester 2 (Jul).
Tuition is around A$20,000 total. Fees change yearly, confirm with an advisor.
