The Graduate Diploma of Business Administration is a one-year postgraduate qualification for people who want a strong grounding in how organisations are run, without committing to the full length of an MBA. You study the core areas of business administration: managing people and teams, financial management and budgeting, marketing, operations, business strategy, and how organisations make decisions under pressure. Assessment is a mix of exams, written assignments, group projects and presentations, and you may complete a capstone unit that pulls the whole qualification together around a real business problem.
Australian graduate diplomas sit at AQF Level 8, between a bachelor degree and a master's. A full master's degree normally takes one to two years; this graduate diploma is done in one year full time, usually over two semesters, and is made up of units of study, each with a set credit point value. Institutions vary in how they structure the year, so check whether the intake is semester-based or trimester-based on the official page. If you later want to continue to a master's, credit from the graduate diploma may be recognised, but that is decided by the receiving institution and you should confirm the arrangement before you enrol.
You come out of it able to read a balance sheet, build a budget, lead a small team, write a business case and explain a strategy to people who do not share your background. Those skills are used in almost every industry, and the qualification is a common step for people moving from a technical or specialist role into management. It also suits someone who already holds a degree in another field and wants formal business training, or an experienced manager who wants a recognised Australian postgraduate qualification without stepping away from work for two years.
International students studying in Australia on a Student visa can work up to 48 hours per fortnight while their course is in session. After graduating, the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) post-study work stream lets eligible graduates stay and work in Australia, provided they meet the requirements set by the Department of Home Affairs. English requirements for entry are set by the institution; IELTS Academic 6.0–6.5 overall is the common coursework-postgraduate standard, with TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic, Cambridge C1 Advanced and the institution's own English programmes accepted as equivalents. The Student visa itself has a separate English threshold set by the Department of Home Affairs. Tuition is published on the CRICOS register. Check the official course page for current entry requirements, unit lists, intake dates and fees before you apply.
It typically takes 1 year, with intakes in Semester 1 (Feb/Mar), Semester 2 (Jul).
Tuition is around A$20,000 total. Fees change yearly, confirm with an advisor.
