The Diploma of Leadership and Management at Eureka Institute of Management is a one-year qualification for people who want to step into team leader or supervisor roles, or who already hold them and want formal recognition of what they do. You study how to plan and manage a team's work, how to lead people through change, how to manage budgets and operational plans, and how to handle the performance and development conversations that come with being in charge. The teaching is practical. You work through scenarios, case studies and workplace tasks rather than sitting long written exams.
Australian diplomas are made up of units of study, each carrying credit points. You complete them over trimesters, with each unit usually running for one trimester. There is no research thesis at diploma level, but you do complete a capstone unit where you bring together what you have learned and apply it to a real workplace problem. Assessment is a mix of written tasks, projects, presentations and observed practical work. If you are already working in a supervisory role, some of this can be done in your own workplace.
By the end you can write an operational plan, manage a project, lead a team through a change, manage a budget, and give feedback that people actually act on. You also learn to deal with the less comfortable parts of leadership: performance issues, conflict, and competing priorities. These are the skills employers name when they advertise for team leaders and frontline managers, and they transfer across industries.
This diploma suits people who have some work experience and want to move up, or who have been made a supervisor without much formal training. It also works as a pathway into a bachelor degree in business or management, with credit for the units you have completed. International students should note that while you study you can work up to 48 hours per fortnight, and after you finish you may be eligible for the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) post-study work stream. Check the official CRICOS page for current tuition and entry details.
These roles are found across Australian industries including retail, hospitality, healthcare, construction, transport and public administration. The diploma also gives you a pathway into further study, such as a bachelor degree in business or management.
It typically takes 1 year, with intakes in Semester 1 (Feb/Mar), Semester 2 (Jul).
Tuition is around A$8,700 total. Fees change yearly, confirm with an advisor.
