The Advanced Diploma of Hospitality Management is a two-year qualification that prepares you to run the show in hotels, restaurants, events and resorts. You learn how to manage teams, budgets, stock, compliance and customer experience. Typical units cover food and beverage operations, accommodation management, marketing, human resources, financial reporting and workplace health and safety. Assessment is practical as well as written, so you spend time in training kitchens, simulated service areas or on placement with hospitality businesses.
Australian vocational qualifications are built from units of competency, each carrying credit points. You study full time across semesters or trimesters, with breaks between study periods. The Advanced Diploma sits above the Diploma and below a bachelor degree on the Australian Qualifications Framework. The two years here include a work-integrated learning component, which is normal for hospitality because employers want to see you handle a real service period, not just pass an exam. Some students use the qualification as a pathway into a bachelor degree with credit for units already completed.
Skills you pick up include rostering and supervising staff, controlling costs, managing suppliers, handling complaints, and keeping a venue compliant with licensing and safety rules. You also practise the soft skills that matter on the floor: clear communication, conflict resolution and leading a shift when things get busy. The course suits people who want a management career in hospitality, or who already work in the industry and need a formal qualification to move into a supervisory or duty manager role.
English requirements for international applicants are usually IELTS Academic 6.0 to 6.5 overall, with equivalents accepted. The Department of Home Affairs sets a separate English threshold for the Student visa. While studying, you can work up to 48 hours per fortnight. After graduating, you may be eligible for the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) post-study work stream, which lets you stay and work in Australia. Confirm the current tuition, English equivalents and intake dates on the official CRICOS page and the college's own site before you apply.
Australian employers in tourism, accommodation, food service, clubs, casinos and event venues hire advanced diploma graduates. The qualification also supports roles in airline catering, aged care hospitality and contract catering.
It typically takes 2 years, with intakes in Semester 1 (Feb/Mar), Semester 2 (Jul).
Tuition is around A$25,200 total. Fees change yearly, confirm with an advisor.
