The Graduate Diploma of Management (Learning) is a one-year qualification for people who want to lead learning inside an organisation. It sits at graduate diploma level on the Australian Qualifications Framework, which means it comes after a bachelor degree or equivalent experience, and it is shorter and more applied than a master's. At Award Academy Australia, the course focuses on the management side of learning: how to work out what training an organisation actually needs, how to design and assess it, and how to show that it made a difference.
You will study units that cover learning strategy, instructional design, assessment and evaluation, and the compliance side of vocational education and training in Australia. That includes the standards that registered training organisations work to, how to keep records that stand up to audit, and how to manage a team of trainers or facilitators. Assessment is practical. You might build a training plan for a real workplace, write an assessment tool, run a session and then evaluate it, or present a business case for a learning programme to a management group. Some units may involve a project set by an employer or a simulated workplace, depending on how the course is delivered. The exact unit list and any work placement arrangements are set out on the official course page, so check there before you enrol.
The skills you come away with are the ones employers ask for when they put someone in charge of learning and development. You learn to write learning outcomes that mean something, choose assessment methods that actually measure them, manage a training budget, and talk about return on investment without overclaiming. You also get practice at the paperwork that keeps an RTO compliant. If you already work in training, HR or operations, the course gives you a formal qualification for work you may already be doing.
This diploma suits two groups. First, people with a degree or several years of industry experience who have drifted into training or staff development and want a recognised credential. Second, managers and team leaders who are responsible for onboarding, compliance training or skills gaps but have never studied instructional design. International students should note the English requirement published for this level: IELTS Academic 6.0–6.5 overall is the common standard for coursework postgraduate study, with TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic and Cambridge C1 Advanced accepted as equivalents. The Department of Home Affairs sets a separate English threshold for the Student visa itself. While studying, a student visa normally allows 48 hours of work per fortnight, and graduates may be eligible for the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) post-study work stream. Tuition is published on the CRICOS register under course code 109278J.
It typically takes 1 year, with intakes in Semester 1 (Feb/Mar), Semester 2 (Jul).
