This Graduate Diploma of Management (Learning) is a short, focused qualification for people who already have some work or study behind them and want to move into leading learning inside an organisation. You will look at how adults learn, how to design and run training that actually changes what people can do, and how to assess whether it worked. The course sits in the curriculum and instruction field, so the emphasis is on teaching practice and learning design rather than general business management.
Australian graduate diplomas sit at AQF level 8, one step above a bachelor degree and below a master's. They are usually made up of a set of units of study, each with a credit point value, delivered over semesters or trimesters. This one runs for 47 weeks. Because it is a graduate diploma rather than a master's, it is shorter and more applied. You will not be writing a long research thesis. Instead, expect a capstone-style project where you take a real learning problem from a workplace and design, deliver and evaluate a solution. Work-integrated learning is common in this field, so you may complete a placement or a workplace project in a training provider, a corporate learning and development team, or a registered training organisation.
Core areas typically include adult learning principles, instructional design, assessment and moderation, managing learning systems, and leading a team of trainers or educators. You will learn how to write learning outcomes that are clear and measurable, build session plans and resources, run group training, and use assessment tools that meet Australian quality standards. There is also a compliance side: understanding the standards that registered training organisations work under, and how to keep records that stand up to audit. Group work and presentations are common, so you will practise explaining your ideas to colleagues and clients.
This course suits trainers, team leaders, HR staff, and subject experts who are being asked to teach others and want a formal qualification. It also works for people changing careers into learning and development, or for international students who want an Australian qualification in the field without committing to a two-year master's. If you are already good at your trade or profession and now need to teach it, this is a practical way to get the theory and the credential. International applicants need to meet English requirements, IELTS Academic 6.0–6.5 overall is the usual coursework-postgraduate standard, with TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic, Cambridge C1 Advanced and the college's own English programmes accepted as equivalents. The Department of Home Affairs also sets a separate English threshold for the Student visa.
While you study on a Student visa you can work up to 48 hours per fortnight, which is useful if you want to gain experience in an Australian workplace. After you finish, the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) post-study work stream may let you stay and work. Tuition is published on the CRICOS register. Check the official course page for current unit lists, entry requirements and start dates.
