The Advanced Diploma of Hospitality Management is a two-year qualification that prepares you for supervisory and management roles in hotels, restaurants, resorts, function centres, clubs and catering operations. You study how a hospitality business actually runs: rostering and labour cost control, food and beverage operations, financial reporting, marketing, event coordination, and leading a team through a busy service period. Assessment is practical as much as written, so you spend time in training kitchens, simulated service areas and on placement in a real venue.
Australian vocational qualifications are built from units of competency, each carrying credit points. A full-time load is usually four units per semester or trimester, and you need to complete all core and elective units to graduate. Delivery typically mixes classroom sessions, kitchen and service practicals, and supervised work in a hospitality outlet. Some providers offer a work placement unit where you complete a set number of hours in a hotel, restaurant or events company, which counts toward your qualification and gives you a referee for your first job.
Core skills include managing diversity in the workplace, controlling stock and purchasing, planning and monitoring rosters, developing menus, managing finances, and handling customer complaints. You also learn compliance: food safety, responsible service of alcohol, workplace health and safety, and the legal obligations that come with running a licensed venue. By the end you should be able to write a budget, read a profit and loss statement, lead a shift, and train new staff.
This course suits people already working in hospitality who want to move into supervision, and school leavers who want a hands-on qualification rather than a three-year degree. It also suits international students who want an Australian qualification with a strong practical component. English proficiency is required; IELTS Academic 6.0–6.5 overall is the common standard for courses at this level, with TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic, Cambridge C1 Advanced and the college's own English programmes accepted as equivalents. The Department of Home Affairs sets a separate English threshold for the Student visa itself. While studying, a student visa generally allows 48 hours of work per fortnight, and after graduating you may be eligible for the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) post-study work stream. Tuition is published on the CRICOS register under course code 110702K. Confirm all details on the official page before applying.
It typically takes 2 years, with intakes in Semester 1 (Feb/Mar), Semester 2 (Jul).
Tuition is around A$30,000 total. Fees change yearly, confirm with an advisor.
