The Advanced Diploma of Business is a one-year qualification for people who want practical business skills without committing to a full degree. You study how organisations actually run: accounting and budgeting basics, marketing, managing people, business law, and how to write a business plan that makes sense to a bank or an investor. Assessment is mostly assignments, case studies and presentations based on Australian businesses, not just exams.
Australian qualifications are built from units of study, each worth credit points. A one-year advanced diploma usually runs over two semesters, or three trimesters if the college offers a faster pace. You will complete a set number of core units and choose electives in areas such as human resources, marketing or small business management. There is no honours year at this level. If you later move into a bachelor degree, you may receive credit for units you have already passed, which can shorten your degree. Confirm the exact unit list and credit arrangements on the official page.
By the end you can read a profit and loss statement, prepare a budget, run a small team, research a market, and put together a business proposal. You also practise the everyday skills employers ask for: writing clear emails and reports, speaking in meetings, and using spreadsheets and business software. Group projects are common, so you learn to work with people from different backgrounds.
This course suits school leavers who want a job-ready qualification, people already working in administration or retail who want to move into a supervisory role, and international students looking for a shorter pathway before a degree. It also works for career changers who need business basics quickly. International students can work up to 48 hours per fortnight while studying, and after finishing may be eligible for the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) post-study work stream. English requirements are set by the college and the Department of Home Affairs for the student visa. Check the official page for current tuition, intake dates and English equivalents.
It typically takes 1 year, with intakes in Semester 1 (Feb/Mar), Semester 2 (Jul).
Tuition is around A$10,500 total. Fees change yearly, confirm with an advisor.
