Bachelor of Business and Bachelor of Ministry

The Bachelor of Business and Bachelor of Ministry is a four-year double degree at Alphacrucis University College. You come out with two qualifications: a business degree and a ministry degree. That means you study accounting, management, marketing and economics alongside biblical studies, theology, pastoral care and church leadership. It suits people who want to work in a church or faith-based organisation but also want the business skills to run it well, or who want a business career and a grounding in theology.

How the double degree is structured

Australian bachelor degrees are normally three years full time; this double degree runs four. You study in semesters, enrolling in units of study that each carry credit points. To graduate you need to pass the required number of credit points from both halves of the degree. Expect core units in each discipline plus electives, and a capstone unit in the final year where you pull the two fields together, often a project or supervised piece of work rather than a single exam. What you actually study

On the business side, you cover the basics every organisation needs: financial accounting, business law, organisational behaviour, marketing, economics and strategy. On the ministry side, you study the Bible, Christian theology, church history, pastoral care and leadership, and you look at how faith communities are run. Some units overlap, leadership, ethics, communication, and you will likely complete a supervised ministry placement or internship as part of the degree, because practical ministry training is standard in this field. Assessment is usually a mix of essays, reports, exams, group work and placement reports.

Skills you build

You learn to read a set of financial statements and a budget, plan and run a project, lead a team, and communicate clearly to different audiences. You also learn to interpret biblical texts, prepare a sermon or teaching session, offer pastoral care, and think through ethical questions in a business setting. That combination is unusual. Most business graduates cannot lead a congregation; most ministry graduates cannot manage a budget or a staff team. This degree trains you to do both.

Who it suits

It fits school leavers who want to work in ministry but know that churches, charities and not-for-profits are organisations that need good management. It also suits people already working in a church or faith-based NGO who want formal qualifications without choosing between the two fields. If you are an international student, you can work up to 48 hours per fortnight while your course is in session, and you may be eligible for the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) post-study work stream after you finish.
