This is a four-year Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) with a double focus on architectural and structural engineering. You study how buildings and structures stand up, and how they are designed as spaces people actually use. Structural subjects cover statics, structural analysis, steel and concrete design, and how loads move through a frame. Architectural subjects cover building science, materials, environmental performance and the design process. The two strands meet in studio and design units where you work on real building projects and have to justify both the engineering and the architectural decisions.
Australian bachelor honours degrees at this level normally run four years full time, usually across two semesters a year, with some institutions using trimesters. You complete units of study, each worth a set number of credit points, and you need a total credit count to graduate. The first two years build the maths, physics, mechanics and design fundamentals. Later years move into advanced structural analysis, geotechnical and foundation work, building services integration and construction management. The final year typically includes a capstone design or research project where you take a building from concept through structural resolution, often working in a team with students from related disciplines. Many engineering degrees also include a period of approved industry experience before you graduate, which you arrange with support from the university's placement office.
You learn to size beams, columns, slabs and footings, read and produce structural drawings, run analysis software, and check your results by hand when it matters. You learn why a building behaves the way it does under wind, earthquake and occupancy loads, and how to design for Australian conditions. On the architectural side you learn about thermal performance, daylight, acoustics and how structural choices shape what a building looks and feels like. You also pick up the professional habits that employers expect: writing reports, working to standards, coordinating with other consultants, and explaining technical decisions to people who are not engineers.
This degree suits students who like maths and physics but also care about how buildings look and work. If you have ever looked at a bridge or a high-rise and wondered how it stays up and why it was shaped that way, this is the course. It is a good fit for school leavers with strong maths and a science background, and for people who want a qualification that leads to professional engineering work in Australia. The honours component means you graduate with a four-year degree that meets the academic requirements for Engineers Australia membership, which matters if you plan to work as an engineer here or overseas. International students should note the English proficiency requirement published by the university, and that a Student visa also has its own English threshold set by the Department of Home Affairs. While studying, student visa holders can work up to 48 hours per fortnight during term. After graduating, the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) post-study work stream is available to eligible applicants. Tuition is listed on the CRICOS register under course code 117914H. Check the official page for current entry requirements, unit lists and intake dates.
Typical employers in Australia include engineering consultancies, construction and property companies, specialist façade and structural firms, and state or local government. Engineers Australia membership and the Washington Accord mean the degree is recognised for professional practice in Australia and in signatory countries.
It typically takes 4 years, with intakes in Semester 1 (Feb/Mar), Semester 2 (Jul).
Tuition is around A$219,600 total. Fees change yearly, confirm with an advisor.
