The Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy is a one-year, hands-on qualification for people who want to work as myotherapists. Myotherapy is a branch of manual therapy that treats musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction. You study how muscles, joints and nerves work, how injuries happen, and how to assess and treat them. Expect to spend a lot of time on practical skills: palpation, soft tissue techniques, dry needling, joint mobilisation, and prescribing exercises for clients to do at home. You also learn clinical reasoning, how to take a case history, run a physical assessment, and decide what treatment plan fits the person in front of you.
Australian vocational qualifications at this level are built from units of competency, each carrying credit points. The Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy is delivered over one year full-time, usually across two or three study periods. There is a strong clinic component. You practise on real clients under supervision in a student clinic, logging patient contact hours as part of your training. Assessment mixes written tasks, practical demonstrations and clinical placements. Some providers offer part-time or online theory with on-campus practical blocks, but you should confirm the exact delivery mode with Aboard Training Australia.
By the end, you can assess a client with, say, persistent lower back pain or a sports injury, explain what is likely going on, and treat it using myotherapy techniques. You learn infection control, safe dry needling, and when to refer someone to another health professional. You also cover professional practice: record keeping, privacy, informed consent, and the business side of running a clinic. Communication matters, you will spend your working life talking to people in pain, so the course builds those skills deliberately.
This qualification suits people who have already completed a Diploma of Remedial Massage or similar, and want to extend their scope of practice. It also suits career changers with an interest in anatomy and hands-on healthcare. International students need to meet English requirements, IELTS Academic 6.0–6.5 overall is the common standard. A Student visa lets you work up to 48 hours per fortnight while studying, and after you finish you may be eligible for the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) post-study work stream. Confirm all details, including tuition, on the official CRICOS listing and with Aboard Training Australia.
It typically takes 1 year, with intakes in Semester 1 (Feb/Mar), Semester 2 (Jul).
Tuition is around A$12,500 total. Fees change yearly, confirm with an advisor.
